Episode 7 Show Notes

orchard to kitchen with #almondsEven though the show is primarily on almonds, please know I am not paid by any food industry. I just adore almonds and other tree nuts! Almonds contain a variety of nutrients that anyone can benefit from. In 1 ounce (23 almonds, raw or roasted without added sugar) you get: 9 grams MUFAs and only 1 gram saturated fat (less than 20 grams saturated fat per day per 2000 calories is recommended for heart health), 206 mg potassium, 3.3 grams fiber (most adults need 25-35 grams per day), 6 grams protein, 7 mg calcium, 1.2 mg iron, 7.3 mg vitamin E, 78 mg magnesium and 0 mg cholesterol. Almonds have been popular since Bible times and are even mentioned in the first book, Genesis! Talk about an ancient food!

Research is ongoing with almonds. It is the first nut that shows it plays a significant role as a cholesterol-lowering food. This is the first time drug-like effects have been seen with food changes: by eating almonds! Stay-tuned for a near-future episode on cholesterol lowering with making other food choices too.
